La Seine a rencontré Paris of Joris Ivens, 1957, Garance Productions, 31’.
Based on a text by Prévert and narrated by Serge Reggiani, Joris Ivens takes us on a hypnotic, poetic journey, crossing Paris on its river to meet the teeming city and its inhabitants. Quays populated by workers, but also lovers: while some bustle about, others watch the Seine flow by. A working-class Paris of a bygone era. Joris Ivens: "I was in love with Paris. The initial idea was the meeting of the river and Paris. It became a film about Parisians and what they come to the Seine for, what it gives them. Prévert's poem was written after the film was shot. Prévert saw the images, wrote a poem and said to me: 'Do with it what you want'."
